On August 19th at 6 p.m., the SOC had a special, in-person session devoted to any person with disabilities. The featured presenter was Zach Gowen, the only WWE and AEW professional wrestler who is also an amputee. Zach lost his leg to cancer at age eight and has overcome stereotypes to achieve his goals. He now is nationally recognized and travels as an inspirational speaker for people with all types of disabilities and challenges.  His message that there is power in how you respond to the obstacles before you had a profound impact on the audience both children and adults. Zach spoke to each person in the audience, gave free copies of his book, personalized with inscriptions. His genuine heart for people with disabilities was clear as he encouraged each person in their respective journeys and to keep in touch! Hear a clip of his message.

AT A GLANCE...

SOCCEED is not just a group or team but rather a family of social service organizations, local government, schools, places of worship, our neighbors, anyone invested in the lives of all residents across the Kansas City Metro area. This family has grown to include in 2024, "Children and Youth in Disasters" (CYID), a group dedicated to helping children successfully emerge from all types of traumas and disasters.  The SOC and CYID have combined into a strong, unified partnership as we come together and create initiatives and programs that promote sustained hope, change, and independence for people that need it the most, but often receive the least assistance.  Not trying is trying to fail and SOCCEED will never not try.
